It is a fun song and it is a nice song to relax to, but the rest of the album is rather lacking in depth and execution.Overall, I would say download the track "Young Folks" and skip the rest of the album. The track "Young Folks" is the best song, and was also released as a single. Peter, Bjorn and John cover no new ground with this album. That is not to say that it is not a bad CD, but the fact is there have been artists in the same territory before, and without a doubt many will follow in the footsteps of Peter, Bjorn and John.It is a fun record to listen to on the edge of pop and indie, which makes it very accessible for the greatest amount of consumers.
This is the beauty of their music. When I listen to their music, it reminds me of other artists, but I'm never quite sure who. This was my favorite CD of 2008 (even though it was released in 2007).
It was a time when you couldn't just download the one song ("Young Folks") from the album that you liked. I took a chance and bought the entire CD based upon most of the glowing reviews that I read. I grew up in the age of vinyl and cassettes.
I was more than happy with my decision. They can borrow from others and make it into their own (kind of like Oasis). I had to buy entire albums for the one song that I liked, so I typically didn't buy albums from artists that only had one song that I liked.
I thought that PB & J were going to be a band that got lucky with one song.
I'd give "Young Folks" and "The Chills" 5-stars so base my opinion on that. About half the tracks are good to really good, but the rest are pretty weak. I'd definitely recommend the CD as there's enough good stuff to make it worth it.
Up Against The Wall 7:06 7. Ancient Curse 3:24 13. Paris 2004 3:52 8. Let's Call It Off (Girl Talk Remix) 3:18G. Well, I can't get "Young Folks" out of my head. It would be too easy to compare the arresting sound of Scandanavian trio Peter Bjorn and John to The Shins or to the Velvet Underground. Band members Peter Morén (vocals, guitar and harmonica), Björn Yttling (bass guitar, keyboards and vocals) and John Eriksson (drums, percussion and vocals) have a sound with classic 60's pop, power pop and new wave influences. Writer's Block 0:18 2.
Start To Melt 2:156. All Those Expectations (Weak Remix) 2:11 14. The Chills 3:50 10. Merritt Poor Cow 4:45 12. Objects Of My Affection 4:35 3. Roll The Credits 6:31 11. There are at least three good reasons to add the band's third album Writer's Block to one's collection: it includes the infectious single, "Young Folks," with Victoria Bergsman (of The Concretes) on vocals, the track "Amsterdam," and the single, "Let's Call It Off." Just how good is this album.
Let's Call It Off (Single Version) 3:39 9. Amsterdam 3:37 5. Complete album tracks include:1. Young Folks 4:39 4.
I could have just watched TV and heard the whole thing way more than I ever wanted to. I'm really sorry I bought this album.
